I have a fairly large round wooden planter and want to go to garden centre today to buy some plants to put in this. Our garden is looking quite neat but lacks colour we have a number of acers, heuchera, tiarella. Some hydrangeas that haven’t flowered yet.

want to add a bit of colour. Any suggestions. I’m new to this only started last year. We are north west facing but can put it where it will get decent sun.

How about a fuchsia tree? They flower for ages.

It depends what colour you want, if you want blue ceanothus might be nice. Or if you want an eclectic mix, I would do a mixture with ideally some evergreen and perennials, something like sedum, heuchera and any nice flowers you like the look of - maybe marigolds? Or you could stick a different coloured hydrangea in it.

Not helpful to you as you want colour but we have the same wooden barrel planter and last year filled it with frilly lettuce, a mixture of green and purple. This year we are doing shady plants and having Fatsia Japonica, copper fern and another type of fern.
