Forgot to winter prune Wisteria - too late?

I planted a wisteria last year, it’s flowering now but not as much as last year. I’ve been looking it at and wondering why I pruned to 5 buds… then remembered I was supposed to trim it back to 2/3 buds in Feb! It’s very vigorously in leaf now, with a smattering of flowers. Should I prune now or wait until late summer? It might be a beast by then judging by the amount of growth I’ve seen in the last 2 weeks! Thank you, I’m still very much a novice and slowly establishing a garden in my new build

I think pruning now would be a bad idea, and wouldn't achieve anything. You can prune in July-ish and Feb-ish, I think - or at least wait until it has finished flowering. I have a very established one that I was scared to prune for some years, but last year and this year we were quite brutal, and it doesn't seem to have suffered!

Leave it until after flowering. Prune in August/September back to 6 lateral buds, then back to 3 buds the following March.

Thanks, I’ll leave it! My memory is terrible, I’ve just set a reminder to winter prune next year

You can't prune it now. Do it in late summer and then late winter next year. They usually take a few years to get going anyway.

With a new wisteria, you won’t do it any harm by letting it feed itself by having lots of leaves this year.
