Name that plant - Purple-ish bushy

I am a bit of a novice, apologies!
I have a gap in a hedge I would like to fill with something quite vigorous and bushy that keeps its leaves all year round. I have seen locally a dark red, purple-ish kinda thing, I suppose it looks a bit like a red robin but different colour. Can anyone suggest what it might be please?
Many thanks!

My guess is a purple cotinus. But in case it isn't, any chance you can get a pic?

Oooh, I have never seen the fluffy bits but the leaves are the right colour.

Taking a walk to take pics is an excellent suggestion, thanks!

The fluffy bits are when it flowers! Think we might be on the right track...

If it’s not a cotinus coggygria (and mine sheds its leaves over winter) might it be a hebe?

Berberis thunbergii atropurpuream? If it's that it may be flowering now or soon will. Scented flowers followed by berries. Thorny (or is it spines?) but i think it's deciduous although some Berberis are evergreen.

Oooh, I have got a Berberis already, it's very nice. Smaller bush size and smaller leaves than the shrub in my head.
I thought I knew what hebes looked like too but having googled purple hebes, it transpires there are many more varieties than I realised, really pretty.
The continus looks just right but it loses its leaves & that's no good for this space, I never want to see the fence behind this area 😂
