Does anyone have a Thunberg Bush Clover? ( lespedeza thunbergii)

I bought one of the beautiful plants last summer having never heard of one previously.
It died back to main branch and weeping twigs over winter and I chopped it back a bit in march. This year it seems to be doing nothing at all. Have I killed it?

Have you scraped away a little bark to see if it is green underneath?
