How do you get rid of this evil thing?

I have a patch of ground elder in my garden. I go into battle every April and retreat at the end of each September. Some of the root system is entangled in the roots of my Peonies so it's impossible to get to remove all of the root system.

i know its a bugger but the flowers are rather pretty.
i have an uncultivated bit where i leave i and spend my energys on the bits where i don't want it.
now blanket weed in my pond thats a bugger.

If I have it climbing up any of my plants I snip it at the very base near the soil then leave it for a few days. After a few days the stalk and leaves go brown and brittle and it is easy to remove from your plants without damaging them.

I got rid of my bindweed problem by moving house - nightmare stuff, I think I actually made it worse by trying to get rid of it at our old house - it was coming up through the lawn and everything

it's coming through our lawn too.

I want to get one of those weed burners!
