I have weed control fabric, anything I need to do before I put it down?

Sorry another question from me. I am going to put gravel over my entire garden, which is approx 18 x 18 foot of nothing atm. I dug it up last year and made it flat(or so I thought) for a trampoline. Trampoline has now gone. Garden needs a bit of work to make it flat, not a problem I can do that. There are weeds inc stinging nettles growing round the edges. I am going to dig these out. When it's all nice and flat I am putting down weed control fabric, and putting 2 tonnes of gravel over it. Is there anything else I need to do before the gravel? It's costing a lot and I want to get it right. Thanks

maybe put weed killer down aswell

no that's fine, as long as you've dug up the grass/weeds adn not laying it on top of that! As long as it's on top of soil, the weed control fabric followed by gravel is correct

I put weedkiller down before laying the fabric when i did ours last year. The odd weed still turned up - but they hadn't grown through, only seeded on top, so were quite easy to get rid of
Am doing another area in similar fashion tomorrow, too

Thanks, you lot are quick. Most of the garden is just soil, got rid if the grass last year. I did think I might need to put weed killer on the edges. I am a rubbish gardener, hence the fabric and gravel .

you will get weeds growing in the gravel, but they should be easy to deal with as long as you keep pulling them out and/or keep the gravel moving (rake it etc to kill of seeling weeds). what you want to watch out for is real thugs growing down through the membrane, like dandelions, they may need a blast of weedkiller.

gravel over membrane is lovely for the first few years but over time dead bits and dust settle in the gravel over the membrane and you start getting more weeds, so it does need maintenance. but you never should have to mow it!
