Can I rescue my beetle ravaged lillies?

I removed most of my lily bulbs from the flower beds last autumn and put them in pots. I have now discovered about half a dozen that I missed. The lily beetles are already feasting on them. I have taken the lillies out and rinsed all the soil off. I am wondering if they can be rescued by transferring to a pot. I don't know if anyone saw the article on lily beetles on last week's gardeners world. The chap said the best way to avoid the beetles is to grow lillies in pots. I don't know if this still applies to ones that have already been damaged. Can anyone help??

go onto gardeners world website, as last week they covered these beetles on the programme. you can click on the programme and fast forward, it was towards the end.

sneak up on them, cup your hand underneath them and say 'boo' and they will fling themseoves off backwards into your hand. then put them somewhere you can see them and stamp on them very very hard (they are very very tough).

you will often find them sha*** so get two for the price of one.

where there is one there are billions. it's a war not a battle.

the horrid icky pooey blobs are their babies, only solution is medical gloves and squish them. best to pay dc to do this for you

No, I wouldn't bother moving the lilies to pots. The beetles can fly. I've had bad problems with lily beetles in the past (yes, even with lilies in pots) and have given up on lilies altogether. missingtheaction is right about the larvae.

i just found damn beetles on my lilies in pots. so dont bother moving them - they can get you wherever you (well your lilies) are....that said have grown lilies in pots for ages and this is the first time i've ever had beetles is there a plague of them this year?
