Do I pinch out the tops of pea or runner bean plants?

I've been growing them for years and never done it before. But the its never occured to me before. I'd pinch out sweet peas so was wondering about the edible kind.

Your thoughts?

My mil told me to pinch out the top of our green bean plant last year as it needed to bush out.

I've never pinched out peas. You can pinch out the tops of runner beans when they reach the height you want, but you don't have to - if you have the room, they can just keep scrambling.

Broad beans benefit from being pinched out though.

you dont have to. but, some plants are indeterminate and it's best to do so to control height growth.

Thanks for that.

I've just assembled my wilko's £4.99 arch for the beans to scramble up (not without blood, frustration, and washing up liquid) so the beans have plenty of height to scamble up this year.
