Tiling before seeding?

I've an area has been cleared apart from a bit of wild grass, should i till the area before sowing grass seed? is it too late to sow grass seed this year? tia

what sort of lawn are you after? Velvet, or something to kick a football around? Depending on the “wild grass” you may want to get rid of it. If it’s a fine grass like a fescue, it’s fine to leave. If it’s a coarse wide-leaved thing like cocksfoot or Yorkshire Fog, you’ll probably want to be rid of it.
