Where do you get your bulbs from I've a large section I want to plant (8m x 8m) There are some shrubs in here too, just want flowers for the first few months next year, then the shrubs will flower.

What should I get to have flowers from Feb to summer?

What sort of soil do you have and how much light does the border get in spring?

Online from Parkers
I would go for alliums - purple sensation are good and reliable and come quite early then Allium sphaerocephalon to follow as these flower well into summer

but you could go for those giant snow drops (early), also tulips or daffodils

I also have irises that provide excellent early colour

You are lucky. I am on clay and all my bulbs just rot away.
You should be able to get away with most bulbs.

I am watching for any suggestions for clay! Ours is a building plot at the moment but prior to that it only had bluebells and snowdrops.

I've had good results with supermarket bulbs from Lidl and Morrisons. Online I like J Parkers. I might try Farmer Gracy this year as I've heard good things about theirs.

I buy from the wholesale side of J Parkers www.dutchbulbs.com. There is a small order charge but if you want a lot, it's way cheaper. I usually look at websites like Crocus and Sarah Raven for ideas.

that site seems really good value. I also tried their 'plant finder' which seems helpful

I should have added that because it's a wholesale site the quoted prices are before VAT. It's still good value, but don't get caught out.
