Does anyone know where I can buy these sweet pea seeds?

They were given as a gift (with a bouquet of flowers I think) to a family member who passed them on and they have grown the most beautiful sweet peas I’ve ever had. I’d love to buy some but cannot track them down. There is no name on the pack (although I think I’ve found the illustrator). Anyone?

Do you have a picture of the flowers that grew? There's probably a sweet pea society that could id the variety for you. That packaging is very pretty.

Is anything written on the back ?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 02/08/2024 21:24

If you have the flowers you can let some go to seed and then dry the seeds for next year. They may grow the same. Or they may revert to type.

Good idea! Here’s a few pictures - they smell absolutely wonderful too!

I bought some sweet pea seeds myself from Sarah Raven and these these mystery ones as SO much better.

I don’t think there was but sadly I no longer have the packet. I only have a photo of it because my sister sent it saying “would you use these”. If I’d known how fabulous they would be I would have kept it!

I have found a website called Confetti Gardens and the illustrations match but I’ve tried to contact them but no response and the site no longer seems to be updated.

@What4words

They are beautiful!!!

lcakethereforeIam · 02/08/2024 21:44

Ooh, I love the really dark ones. I think I'm a closet goth 😃 Though they're all beautiful.

I think I will try this - I’m a very novice gardener but have looked up online how to do it. The flower stems are getting short now so won’t be able to go in a jar soon and I was thinking that, at that point, I’ll let them go to seed and give it a go. I’d still love to buy some though incase my efforts are unsuccessful.

Dont recognise packaging but sounds like these are old fashioned sweet peas.. smaller flowers but sublime perfumes.
You are looking for Lathyrus odoratus..
Have a route around Chilterns seeds.. they stock really old named varieties.... also Sweetpeasonline and Englishsweetpeas... all very reliable!
They have lovely names.. Nelly Moser, Lord Nelson, Cupani ( the original, dating from 1699!), Flora Norton, Dorothy Eckford... all utterly delicious!!
Have fun!

PS.. there is even a National Sweet Pea Society if you get really hooked!!!

You could try emailing the Sweet Pea Society with your photos. They’re the experts so if anyone knows, they will.

Ooh good idea. Thank you. I will do that and report back…

I think they're Spencer sweet peas with the distinct really dark one

I'm not sure of these specifically but I can recommend Zoe woodward gardening. The seeds they sell are amazing quality. They have an Instagram page too.

Thank you. I do follow her but haven’t bought her seeds. I’ll give hers a try in addition to trying to get these.

Are you sure it's just the seeds that make them different to the ones you had before? This year I've grown sweet peas in a different part of the garden, as well as in pots, using the same seed as in previous years. The ones in the veggie patch are phenomenal. The same ones in pots are sort of OK. So I'm thinking that for me, it's more to do with the growing conditions than the seed.

MontyDonsBlueScarf · 03/08/2024 08:33

Sweet peas don't normally cross pollinate so unless they're a mix of F1 varieties then saving seed should work fine. F1s are normally more expensive and it's likely that the pack would be labelled if that's what they are.

RappersNeedChapstick · 03/08/2024 08:46

I've grown some Spencer Sweet Peas this year and they look similar.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 03/08/2024 10:08

They look like cupani the original sweet peas. Easy to find. Definitely keep the seeds. They aren’t too difficult to germinate.

Ask the illustrator! Google image search isn't finding anything, unfortunately.

StiffyByngsDogBartholomew · 03/08/2024 15:21

I did a reverse image search for you @What4words but there were no matches so I guess they aren't on general sale

I have (via her Facebook page and her website) but she didn’t respond ☹️
