What is POOING in my garden?

Hello,

didn’t take a photo… found about 6 different very dark brown poos around my garden about half the size of my thumb. MUCH larger than a mouse poo but a big more pointy in shape. They were almost black and seemed to contain lots of black shell ? Haven’t used the garden in about 4 weeks and they are all around the sides of my patio area. Found some underneath our patio table too.

is this a rat ? 😭

Could be a hedgehog, depends on size, hard to say without a photo. Hedgehog poo is darker-almost black like you say, larger and more grainy than rat poo. Rat poo is small, uniform and pointed pellets, around 1-2cm, unlikely you'd spot it out in the open. Hedgehog is more likely I think. I often see it at this time of year.

I'd agree. Hedgehog poo. My garden is currently brimming with the stuff.

Agree, it's a hedgehog busily eating the snails in your garden.

Lucky you, a hedgehog! 🦔

Agree with others, definitely sounds like a hedgehog. Does it look a bit like a miniature dark cow pat?

Hedgehog poo. It's black because they prefer to eat beetles and other insects or worms. It's usually a sign you have a healthy garden. They drink like crazy though so they would love it if you put out a bowl of fresh water every evening especially in this weather!

Yeah sorry about that, got caught short on the way back from the pub.
