Buddlea problem

Buddlea Empire Blue. Growing tips dying or eaten. Any ideas?

Could be slugs or snails. They are voracious this year. I've had plants in my garden for years, including shrubby salvias that are being decimated every night.

I had exactly this last month and it was aphids. I read a tip to prune the plant back by about half. It'll flower later but hopefully stop the aphids sucking all of the life out of the plant in the meantime. I have to say they are growing strongly now and looking much healthier.
