This plant is taking over the garden, someone said it might be dangerous, does anyone have any ideas on what it is? Thanks!

That’s two plants, I think, OP.

Bind weed foliage (harmless climbing plant but spreads like wildfire) and wood avens seed heads (also harmless but spreads everywhere)

Oh wait, no, I’m talking rubbish - the leaves are your climber, aren’t they. Sorry, I’m a bit hard of thinking this morning.

It looks a bit like Japanese knot weed, can you get a photo of the main stems? In which case it's dangerous in so far as it's extremely invasive, having said that I'm not 100% sure it is jkw, as the leaf doesn't look quite right.

SoulMole · 12/06/2024 14:20

Look up chameleon plant. Leaves look same. V invasive.

That’s not Japanese knotweed.

Chameleon plant has a strong smell..if you rub a leaf and it smells a bit like an over ripe tangerine then its that

Fashionista22 · 12/06/2024 15:10

Thank you so much for you replies, very helpful!

I think there are a few different plants which makes it a bit harder to find out what it is, but one that is taking over for sure. I’ve attached another photo

My phone says it's sweet potato! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Frasers · 12/06/2024 16:37

Op, it is different plants, for sure you have bind weed, that’s the flat roundish leaves, you also have something else in there, tall with thin spiked leaves.. I’m afraid it’s just all very overgrown, so people can’t really identify the different plants from a photo of them all overgrown together. The area needs clearing.

MereDintofPandiculation · 12/06/2024 18:11

Definitely not bindweed, none of the bindweeds have that long drawn out leaf tip nor the parallel veins. I take it it’s the heart shaped leaves we’re identifying? (The long leaves in your second picture I think are Euphorbia). Is it a climber? If not, it could be Houttuynia (chameleon plant). If a climber, the leaves are similar to Black bryony, which is probably why the person you spoke to thought it could be poisonous . But I don’t think it’s that
