Geranium help please

I bought a couple of packs of pink geraniums (pelargoniums) from Lidl a few weeks back. They looked healthy, all in bud. I potted them up a few days later then all the buds fell off! Will they flower or shall I dump? They have not been fed or overwatered.

Are they otherwise apparently healthy? Leaves green and not floppy? If so, just wait. Pelargoniums carry on producing flower buds all season (and all winter if indoors) so the loss of one set of buds is not a major disaster.

I plant geraniums every year simply because they're so robust, don't get eaten by slugs and do well in all weathers. I think they'll be fine. They were probably "in shock" after being re-potted but I'm sure they'll recover and new buds will grow.

Thanks for replies. They DO look healthy otherwise so will be patient.

The supermarket may have kept them in less than ideal conditions (refrigerated lorry for instance, or outside the shop in a high wind) which damaged those buds and they dropped off when you got the plants home. If they are otherwise healthy then wait and see.

Are the flower stems still on with just the flower buds off? If so I would snap the flower arm off. Can u post a picture?

We have a geranium plant which loses its flowers every time it rains heavily, but they grow back really quickly. That's in very heavy shade as well, so I'm sure yours will grow back.

My geraniums have been eaten by slugs this year!

@Freysimo Of course you don't dump them, they're perennial! In a few days you'll get more buds 😂

Freysimo · 11/06/2024 10:28

I've just had a careful look, and both of the big pots have buds, so I'm hopeful. I'll try to take photo if/when they bloom.
