I call this plant Brewers Droop for obvious reasons!! Please tell me what it is. Ps Hilariously, the pic has been labelled as 'Sensitive Content'!!!🤣 ... it is a pic of a plant, I promise....it shouldn't upset you too much

My MIL gave me this plant last August. It's grown quite a lot since then, especially in the last few months. It looks like some kind of catkin?

It's a demonstration of how my slightly juvenile mind works, but it looks so much like a bunch of willies, especially with the purple tips, which is why I call it Brewers Droop!

I'm rather fond of it and want to take care of it properly. Does anyone know what it is? Does it need repotting? How big will it grow? Can I plant it outside? So many questions!!! If anyone can help I'd be grateful. Thanks

@NantheWiser is the person to ask about this

An ornamental Celosia I think

EBearhug · 31/05/2024 10:31

A type of Amaranthus? (Aka love lies bleeding.)

I like your optimism! Not my area of knowledge though! It does have the look of Amaranthus as @EBearhug wrote, I can’t think of anything else.

I can see a lot of brown leaves on it. Does it have any green leaves?

MereDintofPandiculation · 31/05/2024 12:57

OP, try Amaranthus caudatus. I suspect the red tips means it used to have red flowers, but now they're going over, they've faded to brown.

Myblindsaredown · 31/05/2024 12:58

I’d have said celosia argentea

That has upright flower spikes, doesn't it, not drooping?

Many thanks for all your replies. I've Googled both the suggested possibilities and am not too sure it's either of those. When I had it the catkins were like little bottle brushes and I don't remember seeing any of that faded colour....that has come about as its grown. Its like the new tips are purple then as it grows out it fades. The leaves are always brown and they are very small and curly....they look half dead tbh, but the plant is obvs healthy and growing well. I water it every other day or so and it seems happy in the window. I wished kept the plant info stick!!
