Rampant Weeds on Steroids - What Kills Them?

The weeds in my garden have gone rampant in the last week, like they are on steroids and growth hormones combined and they reappear overnight when I pull them up. I need a strong safe weed killer, what are your suggestions?

That is an impossible question because there is no scientific definition of "weed". It is just a plant you personally don't want, and no chemical is going to be able to act on your personal likes and dislikes.

If you said what sort of plant you are trying to get rid of, and what sort of plant you are trying to grow in the same area, people might be able to answer - but chemicals can only differentiate between very different plants, not similar ones

Roundup, but be careful that it doesn’t touch any other plant, wear gloves, do it on a windless day, follow instructions.

It's May, the time of year that everything in the garden including weeds , suddenly goes green and grows really as quickly.

Weedkiller is no good if you've got weeds in amongst your plants as it will kill them too.

Pull the weeds out before they set seed, make sure you get the full roots of dandelion and dock. They will gradually reduce over time as all the seeds get used up.

Thanks all, it looks like I've missed the boat and will have to do it manually, eek.

Weeds with big roots need digging out rather than pulling - make sure you've got appropriate tools....and a kneeler.

An old sharp kitchen knife will do if you have nothing better. Long term, the best bet is dense planting with plants that you do want

I do Roundup for bindweed but everything else handweed.

The key thing, which I learned the hard way is fewer trees and more plants- so the weeds have no room but the plants have enough water.

Just keep on at it. If you’ve no plants nearby, eg around paving and paths then this weed burner thing is quick. Otherwise, I’ve put cardboard and bark on large patches, keep weeding/hoe-ing elsewhere.

Please do not use roundup.
Its banned it many countries and the only reason it isn't banned in the UK is because of money

Boiling water! Although it may not kill weeds with deep roots, it'll definitely fettle the surface growth.
