Part of my hedge has died. I'm thinking of buying something to grow up into it to hide the fact it's died. Please see the photo.

I'd get that out and stick another privet in, it will fill the gap in the next year or two if you put a decent size one in.

I'd also dig the dead portion out. Privet grows easily and quickly, you could even jist shove prunings in from your next trim and they'd probably root if kept watered.
