Weeds coming under the fence

So the back garden backs onto the end of a field that's just wild. I've spent 2 days trying to get rid of nettles and brambles that are just coming in under the fence. Could I put weed membrane down . How would I stick it to the fence. I'm thinking of kinda folding it up against the fence to stop them coming in. Any advice for a beginner?!

From what I've heard of weed membranes I'd avoid at all costs. It breaks down and matts in the soil and is supposed to be hell. Can you fortify under the fence, e.g. with concrete?

I have ground elder coming in from next door under the fence. After spraying and getting rid of it next door. I concreted about a 20 cm layer across of concrete. Then landscape fabric and then stones. So far so good it hasn’t returned. And it normally grows quickly.

I would imagine maybe this would work for u?

If you have the funds, concrete posts slotted with concrete gravel boards dug partly into the ground underneath the fence panels. Saves rotting the fence panels too. But it’s spendy time.

otherwise I would plant densely and crowd out the weeds as much as you can, then try to keep on top of those that still make it through. I find 10 minutes every day helps immensely along with stuffing my boarders with wanted plants. But it is a bit like painting the forth road bridge!

I have a few weeds come under my fence from our neighbours garden but DH just pulls up then sprays weedkiller. I don't even know if they realise they come under the fence.

I don't think weed membrane would work, but as others said a vertical solid barrier of some sort would work. Either concrete or maybe metal planted into the ground?

Thanks for all the suggestions! I couldn't fit out some of the nettles as the roots go back out under the fence so I cut them and sprayed weed killer on the roots I could see. Am renting so can't do any big job . Will have to just try and stay on top of them. At least you guys persuaded me not to bother with weed membrane !
