Yucca Plant ~ Is there any hope?

We had a very healthy Yucca Plant that unfortunately became one of the many of our cats houseplant victims 😭

She has an absolute obsession with pulling the leaves of every plant or flower arrangement. We do I best to keep them out of her reach but it seems she finds a way to get to them every time; to be clear if she never eats the leaves but systematically pulls them off until there are none left and then she is satisfied that I work is done 😸

We have been successful in reviving most of her victims but we are not sure that the same is ever going to happen for this poor Yucca Plant that has been reduced to a trunk in a pot!! 🙀

Can anyone give me any advice please? Is it time to throw it away or will it come back eventually and if there is hope for it what can we do to help it along? 😿

Any advice would really be appreciated.

😻 Pixel the problematic Maine Coon send you her thanks!

Unlike some plants, I think there is hope for a yucca.

According to Gardeners World:
If your plant becomes too big, just cut the trunk down to the height that you want – it will look ugly for a while but should soon re-sprout. You could repot the chunk that you have cut off to propagate as a new house plant.

I'm not sure if you should cut it off below where the leaves were - might look better if you do even if it leaves a rather short trunk

I don't have a house plant yucca, but I have 3 in the garden that I have chopped back and attempted to dig out several times. They reappear without fail every time. So I would give it a chance, maybe feed it if you aren't already?

Hi Op, I have a yucca that lost most of its original leaves. They slowly withered and died after years of being healthy. I'm not sure what I did wrong but I cut it off leaving just a stump and it did regrow a new branch with leaves. It took ages though so don't give up on it.

We have a huge one, when it reaches the ceiling we just snap that branch off and new sprouts always form below the break. I'd say there's a good chance of yours rejuvenating.

Our has no leaves and hasn't had any for some time making me think it is beyond hope 😢

The only way to find out for sure is to tip it out of the pot and see whether there are still any healthy-looking roots. If there are, put it back in the pot again and pray.

I have a spare yucca if you want. I don't like them, but I can't bring myself to throw out a living plant. They go outside in pots and I do nothing. Frost, drought, pot bound - nothing bloody kills them. One did lose its top due to snow, but it's just got two side shoots instead now.
