How to get rid of moss in borders?

I get loose moss on parts of my borders which can just be lifted off, no soil attached - I don't think it has roots as such. If is the very short layer directly on the soil I just turn it over.

I'm assuming the area is in damp shade so there is little you could do about the aspect, but you could improve drainage. That might help to reduce the problem over time.

Surprised it’s taking much soil with it, but if it is,then add it to the compost heap. Mulching with garden compost will improve the drainage and discourage moss.
