We look onto a moor. Have garden, picket fence, private path and another boarder with picket fence - all very picturesque exept for the lamp post on the enge of the boarder. Would I be allowed to grow wisteria up it do you think? If I kept the access door clear?

Is the lamp post on your land or just off it?

Nice idea but I seriously doubt you'd be allowed. They keep lamp posts very clear. To do obscuring light and getting into electrics. Actually god knows why but I'd have thought, No.

Seriously - wisteria needs something to grow up, strings/ vines etc so you might struggle but if you could fashion a trellis structure around the post then it would work - you could mix it with something else as well.

I do think though that it wouldn't look as good as something like clematis as Wist benefits from an expansive area so you get the flowers and shape of the plant.

What about growing 2-3 different types of clematis? We have one that flowers now and is evergreen, you could mix that in with summer and autumn flowering varieties.

I just rang the councel - they said no

Already bought the wisteria, Wisteria. Am going to try growing it in a big pot up the wall on our patio.

It will look better on a wall anyway .

Aren't you good ringing the council? I'd have just done it as it was on my land and feigned ignorance
