Anyone know what this plant is and how poisonous is it? Would you be happy to have it in a garden with a toddler who still puts things in their mouth sometimes (toddler is supervised in the garden of course).

That's female holly.

Thanks! The berries are poisonous I guess. Would you be happy to have this in a garden with a toddler?

Yes, female Holly, Golden King. The berries ate poisonous to humans, but much needed food for birds and small mammals.

How old is your child op? I would leave it if they are old enough to learn, but you know your child best.

We have had a holly tree with three toddlers over the years (no incidents) but ours was tall and therefore hard to reach.

However the lawn still bears scars of 'battle trenches' dug when said children were young😄

You could "lollipop" it, pruning the lower branches away.

Also it would be teachable for your toddler.

We had one with a three year old, with no problems.

Thanks for the responses! The tree is not very tall so not sure if we can prune it enough to keep the berries out of reach. Toddler is currently 22 months and I haven’t managed to teach her no properly yet (or she understands but chooses to ignore it). She does have some understanding but not much language yet so it’s hard to know what she understands.
