Hello

I'm a member at Kew and also go fairly frequently to Fenton House and the Chelsea Physic Garden when they are open. I live in Stoke Newington and get around on public transport.

am keen to get out of the house and smell the spring. where do you go in london to do that?

glad to go outside london if accessible with public transport

trusting to mumsnet for inspiration

Was going to say Chelsea Physic Garden until I saw the rest of your post! Don't know many others, hoping some other more in the know Londoners will be along soon ...

There's an open Garden Squares weekend in June here I've never been but I do love peeking through the railings!

There is some sort of yellow handbook (I think it's yellow!) published by RHS which lists open gardens throughout the country - I don't have a copy and cant google it accurately at the mo ....

You can get to Lullingstone Castle by train and then an approx walk of 1.5 miles along a level paved lane, from Victoria.

Their garden is small but quite something.

Check out the National Trust website because there are special buses from nearby stations to some of their finest gardens in Kent and Sussex. Sissinghurst, eg.

Formal gardens at the top of Greenwich Park are pretty (not huge), plus near to Eltham station is the stunning planting in Eltham Palace's moat gardens.

Oh of course, Hampton court too!

Try the London Wetland Centre in Barnes. It is lovely, and great for kids too.

Geffrye Museum Herb garden is near you. But I think it doesn't open until April.

Ham House (between Richmond and Kingston, National Trust)
Hampton Court
Isabella Plantation and Pembroke Lodge in Richmond Park
Polesden Lacey (Surrey, National Trust)
Claremont Gardens (Surrey, National Trust)
These are the places we go regularly with DSs.

We have National Trust membership and get more than our money's worth out of it.
