My tiered garden is a pit and totally toddler unsafe...help!!

First tier is concrete, second two tiers are grass but not very big with concrete steps on one side so its not safe for DS to run around in at all...

We have had a quote to get one tier levelled out and the garden really tidied up but it came to over £5k...

Any other tips for doing something big like this on a budget? DH can't take time off work and do it himself as not possible....

Am getting quite stressed out with it...

If you can get to somwhere like home bargins, if you want to make the concrete more friendly I know mums who have put down these giant foam tiles that they make for summer games, like giant chess etc, makes the concrete less dangerous for smaller ones and they can play games on the shapes too. Can you gate off the rest of the garden till he's a bit older?

No, can't really fence it off. Did think about foam things but the slates on the edge of the tiers are loose as well and tbh, the whole thing is pretty dangerous. Its ok for him to stand and play at the sand table or similar, but now he's nearly two, I want a flat surface for him to kick about with a ball, which he loves.

Am kicking myself for buying a house with a tiered garden tbh but when we bought the house, we weren't planning to have kids so didn't think the garden would be an issue...

if you keep it the way it is, he will be more aware of dangers and probably be more spatial aware.

Agree with SEA , ds, as it turns out, has motor coordination issues so isn't the most physically adept but managed in a two tiered small garden perfectly well. You could always use something like low level bamboo screes to act as a break between layers and deflecta ball. He will adapt anyway.

Your garden sounds like mine.Mine is on 3 tiers with very rickety concrete steps.The dd's have survived it for nearly 3 years with only minor bumps ect,so your DC's will probably get used to it.We have started re setting & removing paths this past weekend to try & make it safer & look better & have removed several skipfulls of rocks & concrete.

My only tip is,avoid rose bushes.DD2 had a habit of rolling down the lawn & straight into the roses.They have now all been taken out.
