So- I'm a new allotmenteer, relatively, and have been turning around what was a real bombsite for the last couple of years.

I'd put in some cordon pears, and last year, panicking about pruning them a bit late, I watched a video on YouTube and quickly did it.

I think I totally misunderstood the video and cocked up. Looking at them this afternoon, I had cut the main stem back.

They were bought as cordons. Can they be saved, and is it worth trying? They do have leaves etc...

How short are the main stems now, and how many side stems are left?

Ooh, thanks for replying. There are three of them, so varying and several side stems. I'll look again tomorrow but I'd say they around 3 feet? Might help if I take a photo? Honestly, I could kick myself. I blame the sleep deprivation. (And maybe the rank stupidity...!)

We have 2 fan pears. Sadly I can no longer do the pruning + my other half is a half hearted hacker who will not learn or take advice. He cut the main stems off my pears 3 years ago. I was so cross, convinced they'd die or stay at that small height.
3 years on they are almost 12 foot + currently full of pears. They may not be a great fan shape anymore, but that was never really on the cards once the job went to my hacker!
