Does anyone have any idea what sort of price I should be looking at paying to chop a tree down (it’s about 15 -20 ft)???

It depends how big the tree is, how close to anybody's property, whether the arborist/tree surgeon can sell on the logs, whether the root/stump needs stumping out. We have a vast sycamore at the front with a tree preservation order on it and the last time we had it pollarded it was £800; a small to medium sized cedar was about £950 to come out and the roots they couldn't get, lifted the drive after everything visible had gone.

You'd be best to contact a couple of local tree surgeons and get some quotes. There are so many variables.

I did my own a couple of years back.

Bought a chain saw off amazon - literally a bike chain type thing attached to very long ropes.

Used my extended tree loppers to guide the chain in position on the branches, stood aside, wrapped the ropes around my hips and literally rocked to create a pain free but effective cut.

Yes, it took a while to cut down and take to the tip, but I did it.

Just an option if you don't want to spend hundreds. My beech tree was 20ft.

Good idea! I might look into that as I can’t afford hundreds of pounds. I’ve been quoted £900 already!!!
