How to stop cats pooing in our garden??

Help!! We have a problem with cats pooing in our garden. It used to be the odd one from the car next door, but a turf war has started in the neighbourhood with several cats and they've chosen our garden as one of their battlegrounds!!

For a week it was getting really bad, like multiple times a day. We've tried wire netting which hasn't really done anything-even got one of those sonar things, which slowed them down for a few days but now they've started coming back!!

Any advice please??

The only thing I have found that actually works....is get your own cat. You could try, getting a bit of cat poo from a friend, put it on your boundaries. I have read this works, certainly nothing else does.

"Get off my garden crystals" worked for us. If you have the time to wait around to catch the cats at it, try a water pistol.
An ex- workmate of mine used to fire pellets of screwed up foil from a catapult at cats, which he said was very effective, but I suspect it would get you into trouble...

The garlic powder worked for my parents

My mum used to put orange peel on the garden which seemed to work.

Only thing that's worked here is a combo of the solar panel ultrasonic cat repellent the noise and flashing one and this one that shoots water at them.

My mum used these as her neighbours have 2 ferrell cats.

Dense planting helps

I mix spent coffee grounds, citrus peel and half a teaspoon of cheap ‘Vicks’ menthol rub. Scatter it around the areas the smell keeps them away.
On the raised veg beds I stick wooden k bab sticks on newly planted areas.

Sprinkle household black or white pepper.
It sticks to their paws & bum - but isn’t harmful - then burns their mouths when they clean themselves.
It’s inexpensive & effective.
My mum used to use this - the other remedies here sound good too.

“It isn’t harmful” but “it burns their mouths” Hmm

MereDintofPandiculation · 25/07/2023 08:23

Please don’t use pepper. The cats haven’t done anything wrong, it’s just that your needs and theirs aren’t compatible

We have the same issue. Two houses across the road from us have 7 cats between them who all use ours and our neighbours front gardens and drives as their loos.
I was given some granules to sprinkle on which worked for a day or so but if it rains then it's all washed away.
Another house up the road has a sonic noise thing, but I have seen cats under their cars when it's on, so not sure that works.
I have thought about getting some plastic toy snakes to put in the borders to see if that would scare them off.
My neighbour uses orange peel which she says helps.
I just wouldn't want to use something that hurts the cats like pepper or chilli as it isn't their fault.
We do have a cat but she spends most of her time in the back gardens, and doesn't scare them off from there, so doubt she would help with the front situation.

Please, not the pepper!

decaffonlypls · 26/07/2023 09:02

We had this machine that made a high pitched noise. Worked great. Then we got a dog

AnnaMagnani · 26/07/2023 09:08

Not sure the sonar things work.

My neighbour put one in her garage.

I used to see my cat sitting on it.

jamestiger150 · 26/07/2023 13:20

Just to be clear, not the pepper!!
