Have I ruined my new turf?

I've just had new turf laid yesterday and I've been watering it. However I got a new sprinkler on a spike and to get it into the lawn I had to step on it. I'm a tad weighy and I've left footprints in the now very soft ground. Have I ruined my very expensive lawn already?

Nah, it's designed to be walked on you know! it will pull itself together fine.

It's not made its roots yet, but your walking on it won't have interfered with that process.

Ideally you would put some boards/planks down to walk across whilst watering

I'm more worried that it will forever have my footprint size divots darting across and back. It was very squidgy.

My last lawn was so lumpy and bumpy that I was looking forward to having something smoother.

If you need to walk on it again use some boards to spread the weight. Ideally something like thin plywood. You only need two boards because you stand on one while you move the other, like mobile stepping stones.

I doubt the indentations will be visible once the grass has grown, but if they are you can always gradually fill them with compost and the grass will grow through.
