Thank you for the new thread. Did some weeding this morning and watched nervously as DH took his usb clippers to the bay tree. Got off lightly I think.

Then went to DMs and continued the never ending battle against the brambles coming over from her neighbour.

It’s very hot here (S. W. Wales) still, I can’t remember when we last had rain - must be at least 3 weeks so will water later on.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 08/06/2023 16:08

USB clippers? I have a USB toothbrush, but can't imagine powering hedgeclippers that way. Don't they take an eternity to change?

cafecreme · 08/06/2023 16:24

Sown some coriander, planted out cosmos, moved a few pots around. Need more compost before I can do anymore.

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 08/06/2023 16:33

Charge, not change.

I am having a little break because I have been emptying and repurposing big clay pots and I am a bit knackered. I have decided that I am going to use my good pots, I seem to have quite a few, more sensibly from now on, some will have permanent planting in - so this pm I am potting up a rose someone grew me from a cutting, a sad little lavender that I put in the wrong place, and some Passion flowers - but others that will be used for seasonal planting like bulbs and annuals etc will be planted using cheapo plastic pots as inner liners. I also now have a heap of ok old bulbs to be found new homes, can’t remember what half of them are so my bulb pots next year will be bloody random eclectically curated. I have also tipped buckets full of spent compost in borders which the cat is taking much interest in.

I also need to get my sweet peas planted out! It’s a job I have been putting off for weeks for some undefined reason. And later I will be lugging cans of water to my little veg patch ,again all in pots ( see previous mention of cat), so in danger of drying out.

BestIsWest · 08/06/2023 17:16

My mistake! They are rechargeable but not usb! I think they took an hour or so to charge.More of a trimmer than a clipper really. He still managed to cut back more than I wanted.

APurpleSquirrel · 08/06/2023 17:36

Planted out a fern I got in the reduced section of a local garden centre; moved a Pulmonaria that wasn't happy (spot was too sunny) & put a nepata in its place. Pruned some dead branches off the olive trees. Ate the first raspberry Grin

Lovely, new thread! Just about to go out and do some light weeding of the front borders after yesterday's border digging out extravaganza... not sure elbows or knees have forgiven me yet.

Maggiethecat · 08/06/2023 18:19

watered some seedlings and tried to figure out where I’m going to plant them!!

LostAtTheCrossRoad · 08/06/2023 18:21

Passed out. Well not exactly, but I've got a bit of a summer cold and came over all iffy weeding, so have up and came inside. It'll keep!

Soporalt · 08/06/2023 19:03

Bought and planted a replacement aubergine in the greenhouse, for the one that was eaten by one of the many creatures that eat all the hard work in my garden Angry

CosmosQueen · 08/06/2023 19:10

I’m chuffed with myself because I planted out everything I grew from seeds or from plug plants yesterday early morning. I can now sit back and enjoy the garden (until the ruddy weeds start taking over!) or potter around watering etc.
Today I did plant up two hanging baskets and persuaded DH to put up two brackets to hang them up.

MereDintofPandiculation · 08/06/2023 20:06

Drilled holes (using my secateurs bradawl style) in the bottom of two bottom halves of defunct Henry style vacuum cleaners which I am repurposing as pots - large, sturdy, matching inoffensive light grey, and best of all, with integral wheels for moving them around. They now have matching clumps of Magentaspreen- for those who don’t know it, it’s a spinach like vegetable in the Good King Henry/goosefoot family, attractive bluish leaves, but the new shoots a contrasting vivid Magenta.

Then potted on lots of lettuces, and threw away the dandelion pretending to be a lettuce.

Then watered everything. I’m now out of water. 6 butts empty. From now on it’s paid for stuff from the tap.

MereDintofPandiculation · 08/06/2023 20:11

Oh, and I unwound 4 runner beans from a cane and rewound them up 4 different canes.

ThreeRingCircus · 08/06/2023 20:13

Henry hoover planters on wheels is ingenious!

I had a busy day at work today so just waterered everything this evening and that's it. Unfortunately with the hosepipe mainly as the water butt is pretty low and I need to keep the rainwater for the rhododendrons/camellias in pots.

I really need to do some weeding. I'm procrastinating as I hate it but may try and do 30 minutes before work tomorrow.

Very little! I walked round and made a mental note of jobs to do. I must plant my sweetpeas as a matter of urgency. I am wfh tomorrow so I may pop out in a break to get them potted up. I will send out DH to water this evening though it drives me a little twisty to see him as he sends a great mist over everything leaving pots and ground mostly dry.

Bideshi’s parterre. Sorry confusing. Seem to have a different name on my phone.

InMySpareTime · 08/06/2023 21:01

Wow, that's beautiful!

Your garden is a lot bigger than mine. I think my entire garden would fit in that parterre

Bideshi · 08/06/2023 21:03

@InMySpareTime I've got six acres. It's what I do though.

InMySpareTime · 08/06/2023 21:04

My entire garden:

Dammit, photo won't attach

Bideshi · 08/06/2023 21:11

Anyway, I weeded one of the meconopsis beds. In the wild they grow in the cloud layer. They hate this weather- looking a bit crispy. Then weeded a sort of wellhead thing which is newly planted with lavender. At least that's looking happy. Nobody's wanting to mow but the grass paths look awful and made worse by bitch scorch not getting washed away. So decided to do it myself. New mower so had to google how to lower the cutting deck, then had to get the husband to help🙁He did it but didn't offer to mow. Mowed. Watered. Fretted about what plant with alliums next year.

I filled the pond, it was just so low. More of a puddle. Did a kind of first pass at weeding the crap border, but it’s very dry I can’t really root out the weeds. Contemplated my basil, it germinated a few weeks ago, but is still tiny specks. It’s in the greenhouse. Don’t know how to nudge it along. I really don’t know why we put off the straightforward jobs@ilovesushi , I’ve got an unhappy potted erysimum and It would take 10 minutes to weed and wet the gap then plant it in the border, but instead I waft about. I did spend a lovely hour first thing picking flowers and making up vases, makes me happy.
