Those little bottles that cholesterol drinks come in are perfect for putting over the tops of canes so you don’t poke your eyes out.

Sounds ideal. Up-ended garden pots don't really do the job because they can be knocked off too easily.
I have tennis balls rammed onto the ends of my canes.

Good idea! Whatever I put on the ends of canes I fill with mud first, as it dries it kind of helps to hold it on there. (Sometimes...)

Yes, they help with bird netting over canes as well. Good idea to fill 'em with mud.

Mud sounds a good idea, will stop any squatters from muscling in too.

I’m very much a novice but my chilli plants were being eaten and egg shells and coffee grounds didn’t help . I’ve made little tin foil rings and placed them round the base of the plant and they aren’t being nibbled now.
