Sorry can't get any closer than this. Its very tall (and spindly in winter but currently lovely).

Leaves are like a maple

Flowers are not like a maple.

Shape of the flower clusters is like hawthorn. Could it be a hawthorn growing through a maple?

EmmatheStageRat · 30/05/2023 09:03

It’s hard to see from that photo but could it be an elder(flower)?

Geneticsbunny · 30/05/2023 09:06

I thought it looked most like a hawthorn to me too but it is really hard to tell from such a distance

DiscoBeat · 30/05/2023 09:07

Amur maple? Does it go red in autumn?

NoideawhyMNisntRegisteringmypreviousMNusrname · 30/05/2023 09:24

Looks like it maybe a field maple in flower? Acer campestre.
But difficult to tell as it's so out of focus.

whichwayiwonder · 30/05/2023 09:41

Thanks for trying! No red autumn colour. This might be a better photo

I am withdrawing my Hawthorne guess

Wild service?

Starlingnest · 30/05/2023 12:29

Field maple doesn't have flowers like that. The flowers do look like hawthorn but I don't think the bark or leaves are right for common hawthorn (crataegus mongyna). Could be a different species of hawthorn to the native one most commonly seen?

whichwayiwonder · 30/05/2023 18:20

It could well be a wild service tree. I just can't remember it ever having autumn colour. Thank you!

My DH is a tree surgeon, that was his opinion Smile

I'm going to get a ladder out tomorrow to take a better photo, or find a leaf.

Elder?

MereDintofPandiculation · 01/06/2023 10:16

If the maple-like leaves belong to it,it’s not elder. But they would be ok for wild service tree, which has ponted-lobed leaves, although with pinnate veins not palmate like maple.
