Please someone tell me what they are, I see them at roadsides where I can't get a close up look when driving past.
Lots of flowers, thick with them. I want one!

Hawthorn, or ‘May’ trees. Neer cast a clout till May is oout.

I thought May (my aunt was named after it) but the leaves look darker and coarser I think? Not that I can see too well.

Whitethorn (Hawthorn)

The hawthorn blossom is absolutely mega this year.

Blackthorn has darker rougher leaves, but what I’m seeing near me is definitely hawthorn.

Apparently the scent of Hawthorn is reminiscent of the smell of the plague (black death).

You're welcome.

Hasn’t it got the same rotting meat smelling chemical that Rowan uses to attract pollinating flies?

I don't know, I think it smells lovely 😄

Never bring it in to the house, it brings bad luck. Well that's what my granny always said and she lived rurally, so she would have known the old ways...

I wouldnt be surprised if it links back to the folklore tying it to the plague - if it smells of death and decay, that isn't something you want to invite in.

And your name is suddenly v apt!

Ha Ha, I only just realised that, Bless me!

I was going to say hawthorn too.

I don’t think it smells awful but there is a flowering plant at the moment that smells like spunk, I call it spunk bush 😂
