How on earth do I affix a willow trellis to a fence?

I was hoping I could find some simple fixings but can’t see anything suitable online! Please help 😆

Pretty sure we just used ordinary nails

Just hammer and nails? That I can do! 😁

Do I need a batten behind it to keep it a bit ‘off’ the front of the fence or is it ok to be affixed directly onto it?

We put nails into the fence and then attached the trellis to the nails with plastic garden wire

Our fence has battens at intervals and put the nails into the battens

Nails and wire attached to the arris rails.

I used fence staples
