Hi All
Hoping for some advice. We bought a 1970s terrace with side access primarily because it had great garden potential for our area but we have issues. The garden is lower than the two gardens either side and therefore seems to get all the water into it. Currently there is no grass, it's like a bit of a weed wilderness. There is a patio at the back of the house which also drains into the garden again making it wetter.
At the other end of the garden there is a smaller patio area and beyond this quite mature trees and the remains of a really deep wall. We have LOADS of rubble from this wall.
We want to leave the patio at the end of the garden and the mature trees but we would like to actually create a lawn and it seems that we (a) need some sort of drainage and (b) need to raise the level of the garden before laying turf. I suppose my question is how to best go about this?
Could we use the rubble from the wall as drainage/soak-away and then do we add smaller stone, topsoil and then turf? Or should we just remove the rubble? We are tight on budget so I don't want to remove all the rubble to then have to buy stone for drainage? Equally though I would like a lawn and the ability to plant without it being an issue. Novices here so would appreciate all the help 😁
