Do I need to scatter grass seed around this new turf? (Photo)

I’ve had new turf laid and have been watering it well every day. There are some spots where I can see the outline of the turf section; this piece is the worst one.

Do I need to plant grass seed and if so can you tell me what type? I looked online but was overwhelmed by choice!

Thank you.

No, I wouldn't bother. Keep watering and the edges will soon knit together!

I wasn’t expecting that answer! 😁 It seems like there’s a good inch border around that turf with no grass. I’ll keep watering then and keeping my fingers crossed!

Can you get some soil from your borders and fill the gap up. It's dried out too much and shrunk so you will end up with a ridge if you don't fill it.

I think it's an optical illusion that it looks as though it has shrunk. I have just gone out to check and it hasn't shrunk - the edges are perfectly abutting each other. And it is moist from daily (plenty) watering.

On that piece of turf (in particular, others to a lesser extent), there is a border around the turf with very little grass. So I'm wondering whether we should use grass seeds to fill in the gap.

One reason we use grass for lawns is that it naturally spreads sideways. So don’t waste time and money on seeds.

It will gradually fill out. Keep watering and when you do do the first cut make sure you don’t cut it too low as it will chew it up (we learnt the hard way!)
