Hi all,

I've never bought plants online before, but I have no choice as the plants I'm looking for a bit more unusual. But for obvious reasons I'm a bit nervous as I don't know if the quality is any good.

If anyone can recommend a good value online plant shop that would be great please.😊

Thanks

I order lots of plants online,.including Ebay, and have never really had any issues. If l have had a problem it's been my own fault to be fair.
Crocus is very good, J R Parkers, David Austin, Hayloft, Thompson and Morgan, Gardening Express, Anglian Bulbs, Halls of Heddon all give excellent service in my opinion. Sarah Raven has a lovely selection, but mixed reviews. maybe just order one or two items to begin with if your not sure then go from there.

Gardening Express has always been great.

CombatBarbie · 11/04/2023 20:05

Hard ming express for more established shrubs etc. J parkers, Thompson and Morgan are my go to sites for all other plants

Gardening Express is great???

Wow I have always found them absolutely dire. Customer service is poor and you have to chase them up all the time.

All the others in this thread are fine.

Cherryblossom200 · 11/04/2023 20:38

Thank you so much for your recommendations. I'll take a look!

I'm hoping to buy a lot of these plants www.houseandgarden.co.uk/gallery/emily-erlam-london-garden

I think the garden so beautiful 😊 Although I'll have to plan which plants can go in the shady side of my garden..

My son in law had terrible service from Gardening Express.
Crocus is very good, not cheap but they supply a wide range of plants including less common varieties.
If you look up plants on the RHS website it gives a list of suppliers and you can specify nurseries that do mail order.

ThingammyBob · 12/04/2023 00:02

Farmer Gracey, the secret gardening club and Thomson and Morgan are my go to places. I've always had really good stock from them.

Catname · 12/04/2023 00:15

Ballyrobert Gardens
Beth Chatto

and, although I can’t comment on their mail order, Larch Cottage Nurseries sell a huge range of very good quality plants.

N0addedsalt · 12/04/2023 05:55

Crocus is the best quality fab customer service ( good returns policy they really stick by) and good range, Sarah Raven great quality too,£££££ but lovely selection and ideas. Has good discounts worth looking out for. David Austin the best for roses. Chiltern Seeds great for seeds. Have ordered loads from all 4. They’re all expensive though so try to grow a lot from seed and intermingle with local discount plant outlet.

Sorry to jump on this thread but where would anyone recommend for bulbs? We would like to put down some crocus/tulips and possibly alliums. Thanks!

FlossieF · 12/04/2023 07:38

I’ve used J Parkers and Sarah Raven for bulbs. Sarah Raven is generally the more expensive of the two.

I can also recommend Burncoose Nurseries for a shrubs and perennials. Very good range and quality, but a bit cheaper than Crocus.

Cherryblossom200 · 12/04/2023 08:05

Thank you everyone! I know where to go now 😊

Jacksons Nurseries - my gardener / garden designer recommended. I purchased plants last year that were excellent. Good selection although delivery is slower than I'd like. I'm fairly impatient.
Also eBay.

ancientoak · 12/04/2023 09:16

Wouldn't recommend J Parkers - cheapish but for the second year running my tulips have been totally the wrong colour !! I've found Dobies to be reliable and if you join their gardening club there are some good offers.

Growlybear83 · 12/04/2023 09:46

The best plants I've ever had have been from Brookside Nursery. I also buy a lot from J Parker's, Thompson and Morgan, and Suttons. Whatever you do, avoid RG Plants - the quality of their plants is dreadful and their customer service is almost non existent. I had to get my bank to do a chargeback a couple of years ago when they refused to refund me after around £50 of baby plants arrived dead. Depending on the time of day, their Facebook page is full of complaints - until they delete the comments and block anyone who has dared to criticise them!

Kyrae · 12/04/2023 17:15

I've had great experiences with Crocus, Hayloft, Grasslands, and Bluebell Nursery. Thompson and Morgan i'd avoid if you're buying plug plants, i've ordered a couple times and they tend to arrive half dead.

PrincessW11 · 16/04/2023 21:45

Farmer Gracy is best for bulbs, they come from Netherlands and are beautifully wrapped.
Crocus is also excellent for wide variety of live plants.
Grasslands do good discount if order is large.

QueenSmartypants · 16/04/2023 21:47

I've said it before and I'll say it again- Sarah raven is so overrated and absolutely not worth it. Great marketing but poor service and poor quality products.

earsup · 16/04/2023 21:54

Dobies can be good or very poor....do not buy their variety plug plants...all die off eventually before potting on....their gazanias are good. ebay seller , davidclyde...they have good quality plug plants and not expensive, have used them for years and all arrive ok and thrive.

We have had some beautiful bulbs (tulips and alliums) from Bloms Bulbs. Great quality and beautiful variations.

I completely agree. I don't think anything I bought from Sarah Raven survived, or flowered at all.

lashy · 16/04/2023 22:05

Bulbs - Farmer Gracy.
