There is a massive bay tree in my garden, too big all round. Any advice on prunibg/chopping/cutting it back? Without killing it?

If you want to keep it alive then it is best to prune in winter when it isn't growing, so wait till at least October.

Thank you. It's really twice as tall as the garden can take, would it be best to take it back in stages do you think?

We hacked ours right back to ground level and it has sprouted up again. I think they are pretty resilient

You can do it all in one go. If you’re worried, take some cuttings as insurance
