Putting a new liner into an exisiting pond is a pain, so go for the hardest wearing longest lasting most UV protected one you can.

That's the type I used when I dug our 2x3m pond several years (5+) ago. I also bought a thick underlay from a local Koi pond shop and the liner was easy to lay and is still going strong, despite the dog and various birds playing in it and the pond having been dug/cleared out every other year by us when the plants get too overgrown.

Butyl is great but very heavy, expensive and difficult to lay, so it wasn't a realistic option for me.

Our butyl ones have been going for 25-30 years. It depends how long you think you’ll be in the house
