Buying both plants and food at the garden centre

This is a slightly random one. I am just off to Dobbies for a small bag of compost and a plant for Mother’s Day. I am also shopping at the same place for some nice bits of food. My question is is it hygienic to put them all in the same basket? I am somewhat doubtful, but the check out for food and plants is exactly the same and the car park is a little way off.

Take a bag with you. Put the food in the bag in the basket!

I'd never really given this any thought, but I suppose if the food is packaged it should be okay. If it was something like a loaf unwrapped or loosely wrapped in paper then I'd keep separate.

The other consideration is food that might get squished I'd carry separately.

Put a basket on your trolley.

Main problem is soil contamination. Few plants are toxic enough to pass their toxins to food that has merely rubbed up against them. If the food is packaged, don’t worry.
