Hourly rate for cleaner to do our garden

We have asked our lovely cleaner to tidy and weed our small front and back garden, nothing fancy. She's not comfortable with suggesting hourly rates for some reason so what do you think is reasonable? Shes a jack of all trades and is happy to do it and we don't need it to a high standard. Don't want to take advantage of her! In SW London/Surrey.

The same rate as you pay her for cleaning?

AlisonDonut · 01/03/2023 20:27

If she is a jack of all trades, then she knows what her hourly rate is. So pay that.

blebbleb · 01/03/2023 20:40

Yes she gave me a rate in the end. Thanks!

The going rate is £20 per hour where I am (not London/South), so I am guessing a little more where you are.

LoveBluey · 01/03/2023 23:12

I also would have said same rate as cleaning if it is tidying and weeding as opposed to requiring specific plant knowledge or using tools such as hedge trimmer which i think would command a higher rate.

I agree with @LoveBluey

It would be different if it were a gardening business where she had to buy and maintain all the tools, pay to dispose of the rubbish, finance a van to transport all the tools, etc, and also different if she had studied gardening and were designing a garden etc.

Well, yes, it'd be hugely different!

You could be paying several grand for someone who had studied and was designing a garden, couldn't you?!

IME, freelance gardeners charge about the same as freelance cleaners, maybe a bit more if you're asking someone to do more than maintenance.

This thread feels a bit odd, somehow.
