Buy a supermarkets basil plant, separate into lots of little plants and pot them up - let them grown on a bit and you'll have loads of basil....

Do you find they adapt well? I've never been successful; basil hates having its roots disturbed. The forced pots in winter at the supermarket tend to be pretty frail things.

I've had better luck with dividing parsley.

Really well…as long as I don’t overwater. Tend to do this a bit later in the year…April or may.

I've planted a few different varieties of basil from seed as I find they last longer. By the time Basil reaches the supermarkets they are already very mature. Lovely and bushy and ready to use, but quite far advanced to split them.

I'm hoping my purple variety will yield well, the seedlings are already looking very colourful. As soon as they are about 3 inches tall, I'll plant some more!
