I’m making some new planters this year. And I wanted to add some Mexican fleabane at the front.
never bought it before. Do I have to sow it myself. Is this single plant I have to buy? Can I go to a garden centre and buy it? When can I buy it ?

You should be able to buy small plugs in the perennials section of the garden centre or online. It’s usually called Erigeron I think.

I want to grow this over the edge of my patio this year. I have some winter sown seeds in my coldframe but if they don't make it I have more seeds to direct sow when the soil warms up.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 05/02/2023 20:36

@JamMakingWannaBe when would they need be starting to be sown if they don’t make it? Do they grow fast or if I grow them from seed is this no flowers this year?

Sarah Raven sells the seeds. I’ve had good luck from them

I personally find seed packets confusing as annuals, eg poppy flowers, would naturally drop seeds in late Autumn but packets suggest to grow from Spring.
Check out the last frost date for your area, and sprinkle seeds on the soil, where you want them to grow, from then. TBH, the seeds are cheap enough that if nothing grows first time you have an opportunity to try again. Allegedly once they are established they will self seed. We shall see!

It definitely self seeds! I have loads of different clumps along my garden walls and patio

Blimey, you're keen - we're only just into February!
According to a website I saw, Feb is the earliest you can sow. Germination is 14-30 days. It can be in flower in three months from seed.
I bought mine as a diddy pot (£1.49 IIRC) one Spring a few years ago and now it's self seeded in all directions.Smile

Once grown, never got rid of. They are prolific self seeders. And gorgeous too luckily!

DH has been trying to eliminate it from the car parking space for years - nothing works. Ive been trying to establish it in a gravel garden for years. It refuses to take. Wilful stuff but so pretty.

Erigeron karvinskianus. There are other Erigeron species.

Popped back on to say I have got some!!! Two different varieties. Found them in the garden centre. So I’m a happy person.
