Any way of knowing if unlifted dahlias will have made it through the winter?

Getting twitchy.

They are still in the ground? No way to know until May. I’m in London.

I’m Cambridgeshire and I leave mine in every year with no issues.

Prepare to be waiting longer than you hope/expect. Some dahlias take their time poking above ground in the spring. As pp says, it could easily be May, maybe even June - from memory.

That said, I leave mine in the ground and don't think I've ever lost any.

I had a poke around (unintentionally, I had forgotten I hadn't lifted one and was planting something else in that spot) and found a very rotten lump of mush. So that's how I know mine hasn't survived!

Frustrating, isn't it? It was so wet during December I'm not optimistic, and have had to cheer myself up by buying more dahlias!

I’ve got the same concern … on farmer gracy and Sarah raven websites as they both have 25% off until midnight … always tempting!
