Please help me with ideas for my new potting shed

One of my son’s and lovely daughter in law bought me this gorgeous woman cave potting shed. It’s bare at the moment and I’m looking for ideas on how to make it a space to relax in between gardening jobs (when the weather is not great) as well as potting. What would you add to make it special? Thanks in advance. I promise to post another photo when it’s ‘done’ and would love to see any photos of your sheds.

@AlisonDonut sounds exactly the atmosphere I’m aiming for.

@itsmeagainagain love your shed! Where did you get that wee top shelf from? See you have some kitchen roll in. Good idea, and I’d keep some hand wash in so I can clean my grubby hands with the hose before scoffing the gin snacks.

ah thanks its also a working shed on an allotment so not as pretty as I would like. The shelf is from Ikea...

JYSK are selling a battery powered LED lamp, it's basically a large bulb on a plain base.
It has a built in time and although you couldn't read by it it gives a lovely cosy glow. It cost £9 and it is called Arnold.

This is so weird I've just spent the past hour on Pinterest looking at pretty potting sheds 😆

I'd go for a camping chair or deck chair so it's comfy but foldable. Couple of shelves for gardening bits and bobs. Fairy lights. Dried flowers, pretty curtains.

IKEA seems to be a go to for shed stuff. Never thought of there before so off to look. Mine is a garden but allotment style in places. So grow potatoes, tomatoes, rhubarb, berries, nuts, fruits, berries, herbs, horseradish, chillis, cabbage, Brussels, wild garlic, other veg depending on season, and some old fashioned bee loving plants such as Angelica. I have a chicken coop but not had time to keep them in last 10 years but thinking about that again. The bird flu thing is putting me off but OMG the taste of the eggs is so good. Similar to a pp who had cats and kittens wondering in and out, I could imagine that with chickens……..

Mine went up yesterday 💃 tomorrow the tools go in , I’m thinking water butt next . Stool that I can perch on to pot . In my last garden everything had to go in the green house.. not ideal . This one has a stable door and huge windows. Even though it’s in my front garden ( odd garden set up ) I’m going to get a mega flask and radio . Iv nabbed the washing up bowl to use for compost mixing . I’m going to get a huge cork board to pin up my garden ideas as the menopause and a sharp memory don’t go hand in hand in my house ! Enjoy OP 🌻🌸🌺

Scottishflower65 · 27/01/2023 21:30

@Popetthetreehugger three good ideas there - water butt, mega flask, and cork board (maybe chalk for me) for my forgetful menopausal brain. Thanks!

oh wow your shed sounds amazing @Popetthetreehugger bet you can’t wait!

Stool that I can perch on to pot

May I recommend either a kick stool like they use in libraries. Also comes in handy for safe high up storage, fixing flowers to the roof to dry, and for tying up tomatoes to the top of the polytunnel or putting high canes across crossed canes for tall peas and beans.

MereDintofPandiculation · 28/01/2023 09:37

In my greenhouse, I have two cane armchairs with cushions (it’s bigger than your potting shed), a radio, a house telephone (from pre smart phone days), an umbrella, so I don’t get stranded by rain, a small table/stool for putting trays on, a small electric heater, a broom and dustpan and brush to keep the slabbed floor clean. Electric light, too. Spring bulbs are nice for colour and scent.

@Ted27’s idea of a seat outside is good.

One thing you won’t want in there is all the paraphernalia of potting.

Can I start by saying I can’t reply to anyone as I don’t know how 🤣!! I’m going to start (again🤦‍♀️) by checking out the charity shops for my stool , unfortunately didn’t need to be able to step up … lifting my hand will reach roof ! Had a bit of a frozen smile moment this morning, DH brought me a cuppa out while I was hanging up my tools ( have put a line of hooks on back wall ) I said I’m having a pin board for ideas , DH raised his eyebrows and said , you will keep it tidy won’t you ? It is our shed !!! I should coco 🤣. I’m thinking I will put down some vinyl flooring and stain the outside black to match fence . Also electric? Not sure . My sons a publican , he’s replacing some of the beer garden chairs … so Im nabbing 2 for outside 🤞happy days 😊

Can I start by saying I can’t reply to anyone as I don’t know how

Three ways: 1) find the … (if on a tablet), touch it to produce a drop down menu and choose “quote” Please don’t do this for long posts.

  1. Select and copy the bit you want to reply to. Paste it into your reply and put a * before and after, with no gaps. This will put it into bold and is what I did in this reply

  2. Refer to the poster and attract their attention by typing @ followed by their name

Another idea for kitchen roll

Such lovely potting shed ideas on here! I would love one, but I couldn’t cope with one because of my arachnophobia. I keep all my potting gubbins in the garage instead, because it’s big and high enough that I don’t have to go near the roof or corners; I studiously never look up.

I have a frameless greenhouse specifically so the spiders have nowhere to attach any webs - except to the plants themselves, and those types of spiders tend to be the smaller sorts that I can just about cope with, rather than the big black house spiders - or horror of horrors, the cardinal spiders that live in the hanging tiles on my house.

So I will just enjoy vicariously the lovely potting sheds on here, and imagine how nice it would be to have one. Sigh.

Popetthetreehugger · 01/02/2023 07:20

VenusClapTrap Very swanky ! Those ones look like part of an art gallery to me 🙌 yesterday I picked up a folding stool ( it’s bright pink with marshmallows 🤦‍♀️) in a charity shop ,so I can pot in comfort. Now I’m on the lookout for some flooring. Going to speak to my SIL today about guttering … such a glamorous way to spend the morning 😎

I like this chair which gets 5 star reviews and everyone seems to say very comfortable. Not sure how easy it would be to add padding. Maybe with some garden cushions with a bee print.
Oh, and definitely a garden Stoov cushion. I got one for my birthday and the infra red heat is amazing for my aging hips.

Please would you share the name/make of the chair
Thank you

Have you got your potting shed how you wanted it yet.

I'm looking at getting one soon and me and my DH have different ideas of what to fill it with 😅

Would love to see some pictures.
