My figs are still green.
How can I make them ripen?

Where do you live?
is the fig tree outside in the garden?

QueenOfHiraeth · 13/11/2022 19:33

Not all figs change colour, the ones from our tree are ripe and edible once hanging downwards and slightly soft. They are still green

They probably won’t. They have two generations of figs a year, the second generation doesn’t ripen. The ones that will ripen are the ones that are pea sized in very early spring. They ripen from August to October.

Ooo thanks maybe they're the same. I thought they'd go purple.

You can't pick & put near bananas or something?

No, they don’t continue ripening once picked.

The second generation of figs absolutely can ripen. Mine had two ripe crops this year, probably because it's been so mild - but we're quite far north in England; if you're further south, you ought to be able to coax two ripe crops.

I think now may be too late, though.

I would've thought figs had finished now? Or are you maybe talking about the green fig babies that will grow into next year's crop?

They are all green & not drooping, so not ripe 🤷🏻‍♀️
