F1 seeds or grow from salvaged?

Can I grow CrownPrince Squash from seeds I salvaged while preparing one for dinner? Googling Crown Prince Squash, all seed sellers say that the seeds are F1. Will salvaged seeds grow true?

The vast majority of plants grown from F1 seed will not produce viable seed themselves i.e. they are sterile, but, if they do produce viable seed, it would almost certainly revert to the geneticaly strongest of the parent plants used to produce the F1 hybrid!

The answer to your question, therefore, is 'no', saving the seeds is probably futile. Sorry!

Thanks. Compost, then.

No need to compost. You can clean and roast them and sprinkle on soup etc, though it does depend on seed size. My giant pumpkin seeds were about an inch long!!
