Can anyone tell me what this is and how to take better care for it?

It was tiny when it was gifted to me. It's thrived in my neglect (definitely my kind of plant). But I don't know what to do with it and it's getting spindly and weird now. It's also started growing white spines (maybe roots?) On the stems, seen in picture 2.

Any help on ID and care much appreciated. I'm more of a cacti person, or the ever indestructible spider plant, but I'd like to at least try harder to meet this fellas needs.

It’s not the best photo, but looks very much like Kalanchoe blossfeldiana, aka “Flaming Katy”. The white “spines” are actually adventitious roots, which many succulents produce. These plants are best when first bought, but tend to go down hill with age, and don’t flower so profusely. As it’s now straggly, your best bet is to remove some stem tips with leaf clusters, allow to callous (dry off) for a week or so, then plant up in a gritty potting mix, and give a little water. They are also short day plants, and flower in winter months, so should be budding up now.

Thanks so much. I'll do as you suggest. Over the next week or so.

So many plant (cacti) babies this year. I'm running out of space.
