Hello,

Any idea what the one on the far right is? I know I have lemon thyme, oragano in this pot but what is the fine leaf one? I assume a herb? It doesn't have a distinctive smell.

Thank you

looks like tarragon...if French variety it will smell vaguely aniseedy

StroppyTop · 04/07/2022 12:20

Rosemary

Rosemary

minipie · 04/07/2022 12:23

Actually I take that back, if it doesn’t have a distinctive smell it’s not rosemary.

It actually looks most like a creeping phlox I have - leaves similar to rosemary but more tender and brighter green. Have you seen any flowers?

IcakethereforeIam · 04/07/2022 12:23

If it's the one behind the rosemary, it could be tarragon. If it's the one in front of the tarragon, it could be rosemary.

doadeer · 04/07/2022 13:04

It's not rosemary, I have two huge rosemary bushes. It's a finer needle leaf... Also doesn't look like or smell like tarragon. Hmmm I can't remember what I was told it was... Very frustrating

Can you just take a picture of the one that you want identifying? Close up and in focus.

doadeer · 04/07/2022 13:09

On the pixtures agree it looks a bit like rosemary but it definately isn't unless there are less common varieties?

Looks like a savory to me.

SBAM · 04/07/2022 13:25

Could it be winter savoury? Mine looks similar to rosemary but it’s a bit less woody

doadeer · 04/07/2022 13:28

Never heard of that I'll have a look!

I downloaded an app which said it's this... But I don't remember it flowering

It does look like rosemary, there are loads of different varieties. Is it definitely not - what does it smell like when you rub the leaves?

Lavender2021 · 04/07/2022 13:32

I would agree with the creeping phlox comment above. Has it flowered?

doadeer · 04/07/2022 13:36

It just has a leaf smell. I have tons of herbs on my balcony Inc two huge rosemary and it really is different to them, would rosemary lose its smell?

OP posts:
AlisonDonut · 04/07/2022 14:28

I've never known rosemary to lose its smell even in the winter.

NanTheWiser · 04/07/2022 16:37

Definitely looks like an alpine phlox.

IcakethereforeIam · 04/07/2022 16:57

Ignore me, Rosemary's always smelly. I hope it's the phlox, it's so pretty. I thought phlox wasn't shrubby, are the stems woody?

NanTheWiser · 04/07/2022 18:10

@IcakethereforeIam they can get a bit woody in old age. I have just cut mine back (three plants), that are many years old, and there are some quite thick stems underneath. I think there may be some dead flowers visible on the last pics?

The named varieties of rosemary have the same leaf

Well you live and learn! Thanks @NanTheWiser
