Go a generous gardener just a year old which is still below canopy at back of border. It is flowering now and was thinking of pruning the flowers to put in a vase inside. Hopefully next year it will be visible at back of border. Anyway, would pruning it now of all its flowers have any adverse effects on the plant?

No, in fact removing flowers/fruits from plants means it can then put more energy into growing bigger and stronger. Although it will probably produce more flowers anyway, since we are only at the beginning of the season.
